Ontario's Near North offers unsurpassed wilderness canoe tripping. South River offers an entrance to Alqonquin Park. The incredible network of rivers and lakes establishes this area as Canada's largest inter-connecting canoe system. Whether day-tripping or out on extended remote tripping, there are routes to suit every canoeist.

And what great fishing!! In Eagle Lake, the variety of fish include bass, pickerel, whitefish, rainbow trout, speckled trout, splake, perch and smelt. If you don't have a boat handy, a good place to fish is at the Eagle Lake Narrows, especially at certain times of the day.

Opportunities for Cross Country Skiing and Snowmobiling are endless, as conditions remain remarkably constant throughout the season, sometimes through to the end of March. Well groomed trails range from under a kilometre to as far as you want to go, catering to both the novice and expert.

Dogsledding tours continue to grow in popularity as visitors continue to look for something different.

Alpine skiing can be accessed 30 minutes away in North Bay at Jack Pine Hill, located in the heart of the city. This is the premier facility for the casual skier and the certified fanatic alike.

Golf Courses in the area will satisfy the needs of the expert and novice alike. Eagle Lake Golf and Country Club (705-898-0261) is located on Eagle Lake Road minutes from the cottage and The Ten Gables Resort & Golf Course (705-384-5844) is on Hwy 11 in Sundridge.

Signposts with the 'Forgotten Trails' logo are a familiar sight throughout the district and direct visitors to a system of all season trails that are used for hiking and cycling in the summer months.

These trails are brushed and marked each spring and the Forgotten Trails brochure, which includes a detailed map of the trail system and interesting information about the trails, is available at local businesses and the Visitor Information Centres.
